Pupil Premium

At Exeter House, we are determined to diminish the gap in achievement between those students who may be disadvantaged and those who are not. We are fully aware of the enormity and complexity of this undertaking but we will work tirelessly and relentlessly in school to support staff and students in tackling this head-on. All members of staff and governors accept responsibility for those students recognised as disadvantaged and are committed to meeting their pastoral, social and learning needs. Our aim is to use pupil premium funding to help us achieve and sustain positive outcomes for our disadvantaged pupils. Socio-economic disadvantage is not always the primary challenge our pupils face as all of our students are disadvantaged due to their SEND and this is often the major barrier to learning.

All of our work through the use of Pupil Premium funding will be aimed at improving opportunities and accelerating progress for all pupils who are experiencing barriers to learning. This may however, include initiatives which simultaneously have a positive impact on pupils who are not eligible for the funding. An example of this may include the universal access offered to Forest School for all students. Therefore, implicit in the intended outcomes detailed in our strategy (see link below), is the intention that outcomes for less disadvantaged pupils will be improved alongside progress for their more disadvantaged peers.

At the heart of our approach is carefully tailored high-quality teaching focussed on areas that pupils require the most, such as targeted support based on robust  assessment of need, and helping pupils to access a broad and balanced curriculum.  Our strategy will be driven by the needs and strengths of each young person, based on formal and informal assessments, not assumptions or labels. This will help us to ensure that we offer them the relevant skills and experiences they require to be prepared for adulthood.
